Contrary to reports that the Pacquiao-Cotto match has been sealed, a new possibility has surfaced when the Filipino boxing superstar declared in his arrival statement that his announced fight with Cotto is not yet definite.
>While Manny Pacquiao wants a Nov. 14 fight against World Boxing Organization welterweight champion Miguel Cotto, trainer Freddie Roach appears to be pushing for World Boxing Association 147-pound champion Shane Mosley. >
Earlier Roach announced his preference for a Pacquiao-Mayweather match saying that it is the fight that boxing fans would love to see. However, the camp of Mayweather announced a few days ago that the undefeated boxer has been injured while in his training session.
No announcement from the Mayweather camp has been made on a new schedule of the fight which was originally set for July 18. The injury will necessarily mean a change in their fight schedule.
Boxing fans believe that the Mayweather injury did not happen and it was just a ploy to abort the fight plan. It was rumored that tickets for the fight are not selling despite the sustained advertising and promotional efforts by the promoters.
The Mayweather injury which could lead to possible postponement, made Roach changed his mind. Now he is pushing for a Pacquiao-Mosley fight.
Likewise, the Golden Boy promotions Chief Executive, Richard Schaefer said Pacquiao should fight Mosley.
Mosley has been trying to lure the Filipino boxing superstar to agree to his offer of 60-40 purse sharing in favor of Pacquiao. He also said that he is willing to go down to a catch weight to suit Pacquiao’s desired fighting weight.
Promoter Bob Arum has been saying all the while that Mosley is his second choice and if negotiations for a Pacquiao-Cotto match fail, Mosley will be the his top choice.
In the meantime, a Pacquiao-Mayweather match may not take place this year considering the unresolved injury problem of the former pound-for-pound king.
