One afternoon this Spring I was watching Oprah on t.v. and there was a woman being interviewed about her blog. At the time I didn’t really know what a blog was. Yes, I had seen blogs while I was on the computer, but I really didn’t know what a blog was all about. I found out that blog is actually short for web log.
I don’t remember the woman’s name, but she told Oprah that she made money off her blog without even doing anything at all. She just placed ads on there and the money just came rolling in to her. Of course I was skeptical, but not knowing anything about blogging, I didn’t know whether this could be true or not. I decided to do some research and find out for myself exactly what was involved with having a blog and if you really could make money from it.
There are hundreds if not thousands of companies out there willing to host your blog, and most are free. I checked out many of them and I eventually signed up with Blogger.com and started a blog of my own. The reason I chose them is because they are able to place ads on your blog withGoogle. Everyone knows Google, so of course I thought that they must be trustworthy.
Now that I had a blog I had to decide what I was going to “blog” about. At first I just thought of making it a personal site about myself, my likes and dislikes, hobbies, etc. but then I decided to start a seperate blog just for my crafts. My first blog is simply called jedopi and the second is jedopi3bagswool. Jedopi is mainly about my family, books I read, movies I watch and other family experiences, but the main topic of jedopi is Fibromyalgia. This is something that I have suffered with for the past ten years, so I write about it a lot.
I signed up with Google AdSense and they started putting ads on my blogs. Wow, that lady on Oprah was right. The money really did start to come in. Other people clicked on the ads and I made the money. How simple was that? I couldn’t believe my luck. Everything was going along smoothly when Google decided to cancel my AdSense account. I don’t even know why. I appealed their decision but they still turned me down. I was up to $22.00 when they just took it all away. I should have known that it was too good to be true.
Since Google cancelled on me I have signed up with so many other companies hoping to find the right one to make me the same kind of money that I was getting (or almost got) with Google. So far I haven’t had much luck. I started a new blog called Veg on the Web thinking that maybe a different type of blog would bring in more viewers. It does get more views than the other two right now but still not enough money. I have placed ads from so many different companies on my blogs, and even though I am getting some traffic it is definitely NOT enough. In the past two months I’ve only made about $3.00.
I have also tried clicking and watching ads online which only pays one penny per ad, sometimes even less than a penny, and writing for different companies, such as Triond, Bukisa and I just started with Squidoo. But so far of these three, I prefer Triond. Bukisa is okay but I don’t find it as friendly an atmosphere, and no one ever seems to answer the questions I have emailed them. Also one of my articles with Bukisa was published without a summary. I emailed Bukisa twice to let them know but it still hasn’t been fixed. Another site that I write for is myLot. It is totally different than Triond, Bukisa, or Squidoo though. You don’t write articles like this, you just write comments or start discussions on different topics. I started with them on June 1st and I have made over $2.00 so far. I know that is basically nothing but I don’t know what else to do.
I really want to find an online job (I can’t go out to work because of my health) that will really help out. I don’t like leaving everything up to my husband. He tells me not to worry about it, but I have been home for a VERY long time now and I want to be able to do my part. I want to feel like I am contributing and not just here to cook and clean the house. I want an HONEST job online that pays well, and I am sure there are many out there like me who are tired of wasting their day clicking away on ads just to make 10 cents!
