Back pain is a constant source of aggravation. Sometimes we may experience back pain more frequently with age, most back problems result from strain, improper posture or poor back support. For example, with many of us working for long periods of time in front of a computer, proper sitting mechanics are essential.
Symptoms of Back pain-
- Losing contol over urination and bowel movement due to pain

- Fever chills along with the pain
- Continuous aching, pain or stiffness around spine, neck or hips
- Chronic ache in the lower back after sitting or standing for long periods
To control your back pain proper sleep habits are important. Chiropractors suggest tucking a pillow between your legs and sleeping on your side in a fetal position. To relieve strain when sleeping on your back, place the pillow under your knees. Lifting objects improperly can seriously injure your back. When picking up a heavy object, never bend forward from the waist. Instead, keep the back straight in a vertical position. Bend your knees and squat down lifting the object with your legs and arms. Regardless of whether it is heavy or not, carry the object close to your body. When moving a heavy object to the side, do not turn your back. Instead, turn your entire body by stepping with your feet. If you experience back pain, ask your doctor to recommend exercises to stretch and strengthen your back. Ask also for exercises to strengthen the abdominal muscles as they, too, can have an impact on back strain. An excellent exercise for stretching the back is the backward bend. Stand straight with your feet about shoulder width apart. Place your hands in the small of your back and gently lean backward. Bend only at the waist keeping legs straight. Hold the position for one to two seconds. Repeat five to six per day or anytime you experience lower back pain.
When driving, it’s important to adjust your seat properly. Make sure you do not have to stretch to reach the steering wheel or pedals. Even if it is not possible to completely eliminate your back pain, these preventive measures and exercises to strengthen your back and abdominal muscles will help keep your back pain free.
