About Building Your Log Cabin

From the time that log cabins were introduced in North America in the
early 1700s, they have become very popular. In America log cabin designs have
been helped along by the Homestead Act, enforced in 1862. This is a law that
states that all homesteaders are given the right to land, but they need to
grow on the land, and they need to build a house that is at least ten feet
by twelve feet. Also the home has to have at least one glass window.

The first log cabins that were made did not have nails to hold them together.
Instead they were built by using huge logs that had been carefully put together
to produce a very strong structure. Log homes these days are a main choice for
many families although they do have everything that a regular house would have.

If you are thinking about building a log home take your budget into consideration
as building a log home will take ample amounts of money. Be sure to consider
you current financial situation making sure you are not biting off more then
you can handle.

Construction costs vary depending on the type of logs you choose, and the grade
of building supplies you choose. You will also need to pay your contractor. Log
cabin kits are a cheaper alternative to custom building.  You may want to first
look into these to see if you can find one you like.

Another thing you must look into is to see if the land you are going to build on
is suitable for building. In addition you must check all local agencies for
restrictions, and buy any permits that are required.

Before looking at existing kit designs, sketch a picture of what you are looking
for.  That way you will be sure to keep in mind everything that is important to
you in your new house.

Enjoy your beautiful log cabin. It is a good investment for now and for the
future.
