18. Nobody stopped
Nobody! People just walked past the naked baby as if they are mute, blind and deaf.
17. Some just looked
Just “looked” at the little one, but didn’t even care to check if the baby is still alive or not.
Were they afraid of something stopping them from helping the baby? Lots of questions arise in my mind.
16. Is this even human behavior?
These images are enough to tear my heart. I want to burst into anger, I want to blame those just casually walking past the little soul.
15. Why did nobody call for help?
If they were afraid of something or something was stopping them from helping the baby, they could have just called the public officials or medical team to have a check and take care of the kid.
14. But nobody did so
Nobody stepped up and it is raising questions like in this fast-paced world are we giving up on humanity? Are we too busy with your daily life to care for people around us? Are our morals and values deteriorating?
Well, it is heartbreaking and you need to read about the origin of this incident.
13. Manila it is!
These shocking photos are from Manila, the capital of Philippines. Who took them? Find on next slide.
12. Meet A.J. Laberinto
The man who took these heartbreaking photos is a Philippine local, A.J. Laberinto. A.J. Laberinto is an enthusiastic person and loves to take it to social media to voice his opinion.
11. Laberinto took it to Facebook
In social media, we have a very powerful channel to raise voice against something wrong happening around the world. Things get easily viral and reach millions of eyeballs affecting their heart.
Laberinto used Facebook to raise a very important issue in our society. The root cause of this highly regretful incident is on the next slide!
10. Global Problem: Poverty
Poverty is a bigger global problem than we all think.
Over three billion people i.e almost half the world lives on less than $2.50 a day!
9. Manila is badly affected
Manila is the most crowded city in the world. In fact, it is twice as dense as New York!
With such a huge mess in a very small place, slums are just getting bigger and denser.
8. But what happened with our abandoned baby?
You know now that the biggest problem in Manila is poverty and people are forced to either leave in slums or survive without a house.
But what exactly happened with our abandoned kid lying helplessly on the dirty stairway? Find on the next slide.
7. Nobody cared!
It is really sad to say but everybody just walked past him.
Nobody came forward to at least check if he is still alive or not.
But why? Find on next slide.
6. Common scenes in Manila
This wasn’t something new for the locals. Homeless kids lying on the busy streets is a familiar view of them. And now, it sounds really cruel but it seems that they have managed to turn a complete blind eye to these scenes.
5. Blind Eye to the Homeless
If you think what people of Manila did was disgusting, question yourself, what you do when you see a homeless person crying helplessly on the footpath.
Just walk past him with a blind eye exactly like what the people in Manila did.
So this was just to highlight the bigger problem that should be addressed. The humanity inside us is slowly dying.
4. Forgot A J Laberinto?
But hey, this isn’t how it ends. You forgot the one who took the photos? Find on next slide what Laberinto did.
3. Laberinto wasn’t there for just taking pictures
Laberinto, as he always does, took it to social media: “There I was, camera–cellphone rather, in hand turning around the corner when I saw the child. You see, only recently I’ve been taking pictures of whatever sight was in front of me strolling around Manila though not that many. So there I was, and for several seconds the baby lay there on the floor not dying but rather sound asleep. The passers-by having seen too many too much of street children and beggars knew already how to react: they just walked away.”
But he wasn’t going to leave the child there helplessly, he added: “After having finished taking the photos I then asked some familiar faces in the crowd, people who actually lived near those stairs, as to where the parent of that baby was.”
2. Laberinto gets the baby back to his/her parents
After questioning the familiar faces on the stairway, A woman with dirty clothes rushed up and immediately carried the baby away.
But sadly, the baby was again found on the same stairway a few days later. Laberinto added “All of this in a span of seconds. I bought the child food, by the way, four days ago and he’s still living in the streets the very bed to sleep in he ever knew.”
1.Things need to change
AJ Laberinto did what he could, but one man can’t change the whole world. We are lucky enough to live our life in a luxurious way. But if we can just give back a little to the society then we can help in building a roof for the one who doesn’t have a basic shelter.
A very important issue was raised with this news and I hope the article leaves a mark on your thoughts.
