Have you ever been caught in the moment and asked yourself, “What is my purpose? What am I here for? Lord why am I going through sooo much?” Do you feel like you’re spinning of the hamster wheel of life and getting nowhere? Well I would be lying to you if I said I hadn’t. Discovering your purpose if revealed to you day by day without you even knowing it. God sets it before you without us even comprehending what exactly it is. We deal so much with the issues of life that it blinds us to our complete meaning. You look at a hanger, it’s purpose is to hang clothes. A microwaves’ purpose is to heat things up. Now you look in the mirror and ask yourself…what is my purpose?
First you must begin each day as if it were on purpose. Turn purpose to action. This means waking up on your mission. First thanking God for the priveleged of another day’s journey. Many people wake up already defeated, not wanting to get up, dreading work, saying I’m tired or I don’t want to live or go to work. Some carry yesterday’s burdens on to the next day. Is this you? You are already defeated throughout the day and so early in the day, it has lost its meaning. No two days are the same, only the things done in it. Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again desiring different results. You can never become what you want to be until you can drop who you use to be. It is okay to say know and set limits.
Life is about choices – good, bad, happy, unhappy, purpose filled or void (along with the other million and one choices we make throughout the day) It is important to intentionally and passionately seek to pursue joy, fulfillment and purpose despite the situations or people who may seem to be trying to take it away from you. Your choices should be reflective of who you are and what you believe in vs. the standards and beliefs of someone else.
How about we start on a positive note? Now, this could be going to work with a positive attitude, for the unemployed, graciously looking for a job. Prayer. Kissing your partner and telling them how much you love them and appreciate them even if you had a fight the night before. I know that’s a hard one but to continue your purpose you must rid of all distractions which are called the “issues of life.” That’s everything that holds you down from reaching your goal. Isaiah 43:18-19 says “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. 19 See, I am doing a new thing!” What happened yesterday let it go! What happened last year…let it go! What happened in your childhood…I know it’s easier said than done…but…let it GO!
Yes, we have haters. Oh, Lord knows that I love haters. The are people who criticize every little thing you do. They discredit you, insult you, gossip about you! The best thing to do is to destroy them with kindness. When you sense the hate, a simple “God Bless You” will always do the trick. Reposition yourself. Think back to your childhood. Many of us had it rougher than others so it’s stimulates an excuse in the way we act. Did you ever stop to think, why you went through what you went through? This goes for relationships as well. The trials and tribulations that we undergo make us stronger. The “Good Book” says in James 1:2-3, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.”
Guess what? You’re still standing after all of what you’ve been through. Many of us have lost loved ones and we never thought we could let go but we are still here for a reason. What reason? Think about your gifts…do you like to sing, speak, dance, saavy with computers, tell jokes, play sports, watch movies, bowl, drawing, painting, writing, helping people…think about it…what is it, that you enjoy doing? That is a desire God has placed in your heart, a gift, a spiritual gift that you could use for the kingdom of God. This helps you fulfill your purpose which is your gift. A microwave is just a box if it has no heater. It can be use to hold things in it but it has lost it’s true purpose. It’s a waste.
My dear brothers and sisters, let us not allow another day to waste away for something that is not meant for us and our purpose. So whatever it is you’re good at, stick to it and glorify the Lord Jesus with it. We know that “God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them” (Romans 8:28). Continue to prosper on purpose, live on purpose by using your spiritual gifts. If you are struggling with your purpose in life, please contact me. Your purpose tells you what you should do. Your needs (money, shelter, clothing) dictate what you must do. Your abilities (skills, talents, education) dictate what you can do. And your desires (enjoyable work, passion) dictate what you want to do. Remember: Life is not the amount of breaths you take, it’s the moments that take your breath away.
