First the tourism industry in Forks, WA exploded with the popularity of the Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight book series, then tours cropped up taking hundreds of fans to the Washington and Oregon locations featured in the movie. And now a Twilight cruise to Alaska?
As a matter of fact, the seven-day Twilight Convention at Sea Cruise, offered by Linda Wolf of Cruises Cruises Cruises Inc., will depart from Seattle on August 8, 2010 with ports of call in the Alaskan cities of Juneau, Sitka, Ketchika as well as Victoria, B.C. Included in the initerary are on-board Twilight themed events such as movie viewings, trivia contests and costume events.
Of particular importance to Twilight and New Moon fans is the autograph and photo session with actors Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz, who play the characters of Alice and Emmett Cullen respectively. Not to forget, of course, that the cruise will also treat passengers to the beautiful scenery of the Alaskan coast, including Glacier Bay.
Even though the cruise is over a year away, the forums on the Twilight fan cruise page are already filled with fans counting down the says until the “Ultimate Convention at Sea for Twilight Fans” commences. Twilight cabins aboard the ms Oosterdam start at $1049 for an interior room and go up $3299 per person for a deluxe veranda suite, based on double-occupancy. That’s slightly more than a standard Holland America Line cruise to Alaska on the same boat without the Twilight perks. In-between Twilight only events fans will be able to freely intermingle with the regular cruising population while at sea.
Keep in mind that this means even if you’re not a die-hard fan of the vampire romance novels, if you’re booked on the same August 8, 2010 cruise to Alaska, be prepared to sail with what I can only imagine will be hundreds of teenage and young adult girls along with their Twilight obsessed mothers. That will be a blessing or a curse, depending on your point of view. Bon voyage!
