What is residual income?
Residual, or passive income means ongoing or repetitive income. When you write and publish your articles online, there is an opportunity to earn repetitively from those articles. This means your effort in writing and publishing your article is rewarded over and over again because as long as people read your articles, you get paid. The amount of payment depends on how many “clicks” your article gets. The more popular your topic is, the more readers you will get. And the more actively you promote your articles, the more readers you will get.
There are many great online publishers.
Some examples are Triond, Bukisa, eHow, Associated Content, Helium, Suite 101, etc. Online writing is getting more popular now, as people are realizing they can earn residual income by writing and publishing articles. Many publishers, however, are only open to US residents. For non-US residents, a great place to get started is Triond. This article – What is Triond? – will answer your basic questions on how it works.
Writing articles is not hard to do.
It is just like talking to people and spreading your knowledge. It is a lot of fun. When you get the hang of it, it might even become second nature to you. It is important to remember though that you can not write articles, publish them and leave them just like that, and expect lots of income in return. Writing and publishing is only the first part. The next important thing to do is to promote them.
How to promote articles?
Promoting your content means you are driving more people to your articles. There are many social bookmarking sites that you can promote your articles on. Examples of these sites are Stumbleupon, Digg, Reddit, Delicious, Diigo, Mister Wong, etc. By utilizing the bookmarking sites you’re letting the world know about your articles.
Many people also use social networking sites to promote, like for example Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, etc.
Another way to promote your content is to join forums that are related to your articles. Like for example, some of my articles are focused on mom-related issues, so I share my article links on mom forums.
Linking your articles to your other articles is also a very effective way of promoting. Notice I have some linked articles here, this is an example of how to link your articles. But only link if the article is related to your topic and if the reader will benefit from it.
What article topics to write?
Write what you already know. Guides and how-to articles are very popular. Write about something you’re enthusiastic about or you’re familiar about. Write about your hobbies. For example I love making pancakes for my kids and I’ve mastered the “art” of making pancakes because I’ve made them so many times. So I wrote an article called Perfect Pancakes Recipe. The article got many views because many other people want to learn to make homemade pancakes too. To name a few examples these are also some of the topics that I wrote that also got many views.
If I can write, you can too. Share your ideas, knowledge, and the things you have learned to other people. That’s what writing is all about.
And remember, the earnings will only come if you love what you’re doing, and if you are patient. It’s much like gardening, you plant a seed but you know that the flowers will not come overnight, or you plant a tree and you know that the fruits will not grow overnight. You will have to take care of your plant, nourish it & make it grow, and reap the fruits of your labor. In the same way, it is not possible to write articles and expect to earn overnight. It takes time, effort and patience. If you enjoy doing it, you will find ways to make it thrive.
