Wherever he goes, Manny Pacquiao is amazed at the reception he gets from his host. Blame it on the media for covering his major fights and for highlighting his good qualities both as a boxer and as a responsible citizen.

In a brief visit to Thailand the other day, Manny expressed his appreciation for the reception that he got not only from the government officials but more so from the people of Thailand especially the youth and thousands of his boxing fans.

It is indeed amazing for Manny Pacquiao to become the boxing icon of the world today. Filipinos are equally surprised at how Manny landed in the Time Magazine list of 100 most popular persons of the world.

But how is this possible? Because of the power of the media in reaching people from around the world, victories or major accomplishments of sports personalities are highlighted during their winning moments. But their popularity rating usually dives when the occasion is over.

In the case of Manny Pacquiao, his popularity lingers. The reason perhaps can be attributed to the kind of person that he is. Boxing fans or even ordinary people with little or no s[ports orientation looked at him as good person; humble in his victories, good natured, friendly, caring, charitable, religious and God-fearing.

Manny Pacquiao serves as an inspiration to the youth for his ability to withstand life’s difficult situations. He inspires the youth by effectively telling them that success can be attained with discipline, hard work, determination and faith in the God.

For these exceptional qualities, Manny Pacquiao has been appointed by the President of the Philippines to serve his country as an Ambassador of Peace and Goodwill.

In his visit to Thailand the other day, he was given a warm reception by the Thai government. Thai officials say that he serves as an inspiration to the youth of Thailand for his good deeds and exceptional accomplishments.

GMA News reports:
“Manny Pacquiao is not just a hero of the Philippines, he is the hero of all Asia,” Pol Gen Kovid was quoted in the Bangkok Post report. “He sets a very good example, both in and out of the ring, with the way he conducts himself.” >Pacquiao thinks that Floyd Mayweather will win against Juan Manuel Marquez in their upcoming fight in Las Vegas, Nevada on July 18, 2009.
